The Haunting of Ruby Shane (part 1)

The boy down the road still mows the lawn though I can't pay him. The roof needs fixed but who can afford it now. The boy used to come in the house and look for me..But he only looks at the kitchen window now when he is finished with the lawn.

My husband killed himself 2 years ago after finding out he had lost his job of 20 years. He went to the barn and blew his brains out. A single shot to the temple. I heard the shot and found him on the barn floor. I have never had a loss like that. My world has never been the same.

My kids are grown and gone..

And I roam this house day and night alone...

I see the kids play outside through my windows, and yet when they see me they seem afraid. I would never hurt them.

The electricity was shut off long ago. But, I still have a pump in the kitchen for water.
But does a ghost really need water?

  1. At first I thought you were talking about yourself. What a moving passage.

Is that the start of your book? If it is I think it is very moving and powerful.

  7. LOVE IT!!! I remember this house when I lived in a town, I was probley 2 grade and we use to think this house was haunted, and we'd ride our bikes by it and stare at it, and do would you believe to this day I like to hear storeys of things like that, so most diffentley keep writting, at first I too thought you were writting about an experience you had, very good.

  10. Okay,

I started to read this and was saying oh my goodness. Great start to a story, pulls the reader right in and when I go to buy a book if the first paragraph doesn't pull me in, I usually don't buy it. Love it. Good luck!

  16. Joni: I took this picture out in the country about 12 miles away from where I live.
I thought it was odd that the lawn was still mowed and the house was so broke down. But I saw that soomeone still came and checked on the property from the shed being open. And that someone had been in the house.
Thanks for the compliment. It is good for the soul.

  24. I am sitting here crying!!!! UNTIL I read the comments and realized it is just a story. I was ready to go get that lady and bring her to my home. It was tearing my heart out! Honestly! I am going to have to go pull myself together! I am sure that this story is true. . . somewhere. I have seen those women. I have seen those houses. It gives me chills.
