Murder in a Small Town

This past week has been terrifying. I could not write about it until now. A woman in our town named Michelle Cavaletto was brutally murdered this past Saturday. She was a 1st grade school teacher. They just caught her killer yesterday. She was walking just a few blocks from her rural home when a man in a jeep ran her down, drug her into the woods and viciously raped her and left her to die. He came back they said a few hours later, and she was still alive, he then kicked her in the face with his steel toed boots , and then stabbed her to death. I cried so much for this poor woman. It makes me so mad that this little punk did this to her. She had 2 children. I can't imagine the horror she felt while this was happening to her.
My daughter asked me how someone could do this to a complete stranger. I told her I don't know. I myself don't understand anyone who wants to kill another human being. Especially this way. Then there were rumors of 2 other murders which was really frightening as well. We live in a small town and it is a rare occurrence for something so heinous to happen like this. I ask that everyone say a prayer for this woman's family. That God would help them to heal. That He would pour mercy and strength down on them during this horrible time. Thanks ~nita~

Even though I did not know her I will remember her. She was a woman like me, a mother like me, Someones daughter like me.

It is senseless. And although God is merciful, there are just some people that should get an automatic ticket to hell (ones who take joy in heinous acts). Sad for the family. Livid with the brute.

My cousin was murdered in similar fashion in a small town in western KS. That was 30 years ago. It is still having an impact.
I'll be praying.

Nita...this is terrible. It's hard to fathom that a human being could be so cold, so devoid of compassion and the sense of right and wrong. This was so close to home for you....too close. And the sweet children who now have to come to terms with this.
You are all in my thoughts and prayers.

Rella: My daughter was so sick over this all week. She was horrified that it was only 5 miles from our home. I was horrified too, I just can't fathom the mind of someone who wants to hurt others, especially someone innocent like her. This poor woman never even knew her attacker. xoxo Nita

Oh Nita,
How sorry I am to read this. Close to 20 years ago a very close and dear friend of mine was kidnapped, raped and tortured for 3 days before she was killed by 4 men. We live in a very small, close community as well and this was long before DNA. Everyone knew Nan, as she owned the Hallmark Store in the town/county. The trial had to be held in another area because it was impossible for people not to have heard, read and formed conclusions pre trial. In the end, they were convicted but Nan's dear sweet Mother has never gotten over it. I haven't gotten over it. There is never understanding evil.
I will pray for this family!!!!
Big hugs to you. God is raising you up to be an intercessor, Nita.

It is just impossible to understand why some of us human beings are so inhuman. If it was just the one crazy, maybe we could understand better, but some of these people seem to be sane - and as the comments show, this is not as rare as we could hope. Terrible terrible loss for her children, how can they ever get over fear of the stranger and live normal cheerful lives?

How frightening and horrible for all of you who live there. I pray that God gives this woman's family and friends and the whole town strength to get through the nightmare.

How horrible...I can't think of the right words to say...and then reading about the other stories people have shared...ogosh!! There really is a very real evil in this world and it's constantly fighting to be in full power.
But then there is our Lord and He is still on the throne!
And evil, as much as it may think it's winning in this lifetime, will NOT win in the end. That must be our comfort and strength...I will pray that for this poor girls family. I will pray victory and the strength of Christ to overcome.
